KINGSTON, Jamaica – Big Jule has now staked an undoubted claim to compete favourably in the upcoming Classic races for three-year-olds, especially the 10-furlong Jamaica St Leger and the 12-furlong Jamaica Derby, after a sublime effort in winning Division 11 of the Mr Lover Lover Trophy feature on Monday, June 21 at Caymanas Park. The Mr Lover Lover Trophy was a Restricted Allowance contest (non-winners of two) going 1820 metres.

Trained by Ian Parsard, the bay colt by Tapizar - Blues In The Grass, who was brought to Jamaica in utero was winning his second race from three starts.

Installed as the 6/5 favourite and ridden by Omar Walker, Big Jule won the event by 18 1/4 lengths in the field of nine runners, clocking 1:57.4 with fractions of 26.3, 51.4, 1:17.0, 1:42.3.

Prince Marshall, ridden by Youville Pinnock, was second with T Brady third.

“Big Jule showed promise from the time he won his debut race [and] he again demonstrated that quality today (June 21).

“He is a late May foal and is a huge animal and, unfortunately, we could not have done much with him until March of this year, for his knees were not yet closed. We are really behind time with Big Jule.

“I thought he was fortunate when he won his maiden race and a little unfortunate when he lost his non-two at seven furlongs. To get him to perform as he did today, we took our time preparing him. We skipped the 2000 Guineas, even though he had qualified. But even so, we passed that opportunity and took our time to prepare him for this race. We saw the result of our efforts today as he is vastly improved and has shown that he is progressing in the right direction,” Parsard said.
