THE QUICK GALLOPER’S – raceday notes for Saturday, June 12, 2021.

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The usual review of the raceday that was June 12, 2021, begins with the betting.

 BETTING 

Reggae-6 

The extremely popular Reggae-6 wager (first six races) despite not having a mandatory payout soared to over $10 million. With many favourites and favoured horses obliging, the single-winner jackpot was not caught. The single-winner bonus now stands at $3,588,005.15.

Ketch-9 

The newly introduced Ketch-9 (races 2-10) had an interesting ending. Up to the final race, there was one ticket left in the Ketch-9 which was inclusive of the 21-1 upsetter Awesome Treasure in the ninth.

The single ticket holder did not have the winner of the tenth Lava Boy, thereby leaving the Ketch-9 without a winner, with the payout going to ticket holders with eight of nine winners.

Quickly, after two racedays, the Ketch-9 jackpot has reached, $1,552,225.32.

THE HORSES

It was a serene day at the track for punters with mostly well-backed horses obliging.

The upset did not arrive until the ninth race when Awesome Treasure made one move to win the Open Allowance feature (the Alsafra Cup) run over a mile. Awesome Treasure ridden by Dane Dawkins and trained by Gary Subratie won at odds of 21-1.

Special mention has to be made of the effort by three-year-old Simba The Lion trained by Patrick Lynch and ridden by Robert Halledeen.

Racing for only the second time after being beaten by a neck on debut, Simba The Lion (Lion Tamer – Just Whisper) at six furlongs assumed the lead after three furlongs were completed and galloped strongly in the straight winning by 8 ¼ lengths. Simba The Lion is one to follow.

So too Sweet Destiny. This three-year-old filly by Bern Identity – Woman Is Boss, was making her second start after winning first time out.

On debut, Sweet Destiny trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Anthony Thomas was explosive from in front. Today, Sweet Destiny had to choose another path as she was not able to lead. Instead, Thomas had her behind in fourth place before making a move on the inside rails to get by a stubborn Badgyalriri.

Disqualification 

Big Paul, ridden by Oshane Nugent and trained by Anthony Nunes was first by the post in the seventh but was later disqualified by the raceday stewards for causing interference and intimidation to Diligent. Second, by the post, Chrisanli was promoted to the winner’s slot.

TRAINERS 

Only trainer Gary Subratie was able to saddle more than one winner. Subratie had a double with Awesome Treasure and Lava Boy.

JOCKEYS

There were three multiple winners, Tevin Foster who had two visits to the winners’ enclosure on Chrisanli and Lava Boy; Dane Nelson with two Commissioner and St Michael; and Dane Dawkins who also had two winners - Mansur Musur and Awesome Treasure.
