KINGSTON, Jamaica - The highly thought of Earn Your Stripes from the high-powered barn of trainer Anthony Nunes makes his three-year-old entry tomorrow at Caymanas Park.
Earn Your Stripes (Nuclear Wayne – Brown Sugar) last raced on Boxing Day over the same distance of a mile in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes when he finished third behind Run Thatcher Run and Supreme Soul after setting blistering splits of 45.3 x 1:10.2 x 1:39.1.
With a record of three races with one win, Earn Your Stripes, enters tomorrow’s encounter with the Tongue Tie on and he should face toughest competition from Duke, foreigner Dyna’s Pride and Phenom.
Duke won for the first time on January 1, and has been pretty active on the track and with the journey of a mile right up his street, look for a really good effort especially with the champion jockey in the saddle.
Dyna’s Pride runs with the figure 8 on and is as consistent as can be. Her last two races have been over seven furlongs and this extra furlong should not prove difficult for the American importee and maybe it is a signal of intention from trainer Gary Subratie to put up the red-hot Trevor Simpson in the saddle.
Phenom is an unknown quantity. He is well bred by the new but encouraging stallion Soul Warrior with the dam being the top-rated producer of winners, Super Lei. Phenom won on debut beating Duke over 5 ½ furlongs and then was behind in fourth when next on the track beaten by Corazon. It was then said that Phenom was not himself in that last-mentioned race and now with a rest period of 77 days is coming to run. Note trainer Steven Todd has put on both the Tongue Tie and figure 8 on Phenom.
The other three runners should all languish behind the four considered in this analysis.
