KINGSTON, Jamaica – He won last time out, he was claimed in that race and now just moments ago, Cryptocurrency made it two wins in a row in the Caymanas Friday (April 23) first thanks to the skill and determination of jockey Dane Dawkins.
The Caymanas Friday first was a claiming contest in the bracket of $1 million - $800,000) for three-year-old and upwards horses at the distance of 6 ½ furlongs.
The leader soon after a furlong was completed was 9-5 favourite Top Shelf (Omar Walker) followed by Lala Diva (Delroy Beharie). Cryptocurrency and Dawkins played the waiting game behind the leaders.
Entering the stretch for the last two furlongs of the race it was still Top Shelf with the advantage and looking the likely winner.
Dawkins made his move on Cryptocurrency trained by Anthony Dixon along the inside rails and a duel then ensured with Top Shelf pulling away to win by 2 ¼ lengths. Third was Wilson (Dane Nelson).
This was the seventh career victory from 39 starts for Cryptocurrency while Dixon was walking into the winners’ enclosure for the first time this year.
