KINGSTON, Jamaica - After five unsuccessful efforts at the Open Allowance level, the Dennis Lee-trained Roy Rogers stepped down the ladder to take on rivals in a non-restricted Overnight Allowance for the Lloyd Lindberg “Lindy” Delapenha Trophy on Sunday, March 7, 2021.

Ridden by apprentice Nicholas Hibbert, Roger Rogers (Distorted – Soca Party) won the three-year-old and upwards event over a mile by a fighting half-length in a time of 1:40.3.

Setting the early pace with Harry’s Train (Ricardo Duhaney), Hibbert was not in a rush; he calculated his effort and skilfully guided the grey gelding to enter the stretch drive with the advantage.

Inside the final furlong, Roy Rogers began to shorten but Hibbert got the best out of his mount and thwarted the challenges of Coco Chanel (Dane Dawkins) and Big Bang to get home by half-a-length. Roy Rogers was winning his second race from his last 10 efforts and now has career earnings of over $5 million.

“It was a good performance by Roy Rogers to win here. He is a horse that must always go in front to be fully effective and to be at his best. That’s how he runs. He is going back up to Open Allowance event when next at the races and whenever there’s a race up there he will be there,” Lee said.
