KINGSTON, Jamaica – This quick recap starts with the first five races, which were all won by odds on favourites thereby rendering the Reggae-6 to multiple winners with a meagre payout of $778.

The Reggae-6 singe winner bonus, however, moved quite substantially to $4,770, 647.76.

The five odds-on winners of the first five races were:

Race 1 – Baltusrol 3-5

Race 2 – Qurandero 3-5

Race 3 – True Al Sky 1-2

Race 4 – Custer 1-5

Race 5 – Miss Cookie 4-5

Of those five races, to only one worth mentioning is first-time three-year-old runner True Al Sky by American Dane – Go Flint Go, who despite running against weak opposition did enough to turn on the light of expectation among his connections including trainer Al Brown.

The other four races also went with the form book.

The second favourite at 2-1 Mamacita took the sixth, Hover Craft – the second favourite at 3-2 the seventh, Solid Approach won the eighth as the second choice at 9-5 and Calculus the finale at 7-5, being the second favourite as well.

Special mention is given to Hover Craft, Solid Approach, and Calculus.

Hover Craft turn back the hands of time at 11 years-old to defeat the top claimers by 17 lengths. This win by Hover Craft must have brought a smile to the face of trainer Wayne DaCosta.

Solid Approach benefitted from a superb ride by Omar Walker coming from way off the pace to beat a down in grade Patriarch. Trainer of Solid Approach Robert Pearson has to be given a lot of credit for winning three straight races with this horse. So too Walker who was aboard for those three wins. The hope is for Solid Approach, now at the Open Allowance level to continue progressing to campaign with distinction against the best horses around.

We come now to Calculus, a bay colt by Sensational Slam – Trinket Box who ran his legs off under a pulsating ride from Dane Nelson to win the 6-furlong Sir Howard Stakes, which is regarded as the first major preparation step for the upcoming Classic races.

Presented in immaculate condition by champion Anthony Nunes, Calculus showed that he might like it going longer which is certainly what his camp is looking for at this time.

The run my Regnant racing for only the second time indicates that this horse has more than average talent as to finish just half a length behind Calculus was quite an achievement. Watch Regnant closely in the future.
