KINGSTON, Jamaica – Billy Whizz, a two-year-old chestnut gelding by Northern Giant – Khadiliah proved too strong for his six fellow maiden rivals to win the Front Runner Cup.
This event run over six furlongs was the feature on today’s nine-race card at The Park.
Thomas was at his patient best as first timers Acero (Dick Cardenas) and Alexa’s Dream (Omar Walker) locked horns on the headlines with Billy Whizz trained by Wayne DaCosta racing in third.
Leaving the half-mile turn, Acero sped away setting searing splits of 22.3 x 46.0.
It was still Acero entering the final two furlongs for the stretch drive with a revved up Billy Whizz getting a clear passage on the inside rails.
Acero folded badly in the last furlong, as Billy Whizz gained control to win by four lengths.
Regal and Royal (Kiaman McGregor) coming from way behind finished strongly to earn second place with The Genesis (Hakeem Pottinger) third.
The winning time was 1:13.1.
