KINGSTON, Jamaica – He has talent, he has class and with Omar Walker in the saddle, Mahogany gave a truly sensational performance to dismiss with disdain all rivals by 10 ½ lengths racing for the first time at the Overnight level.
Mahogany (Sensational Slam –Mete-Orite) raced behind expected leader Jamai Raja in the 8 ½ furlong contest after the gates opened but after leaving the six- furlong marker Walker asked Mahogany to press ahead and from then it was never in doubt.
With a scorching first half mile of 45.4, Walker and Mahogany turned for home behind a six-furlong timing of 1:10.0 and was still able to accelerate to end in a final time of 1:43.0 which is just four-fifths of a second off the track record of 1:42.1.
The next assignment for Mahogany should be the 10-furlong St Leger.
