KINGSTON, Jamaica - On April 7, 2021, trainer Jason DaCosta saddled his first winner at Caymanas Park, Elitist ridden by Anthony Thomas.

On August 24, 2024, approximately 3 ½ years later, DaCosta achieved the milestone of 300 winners, when his charge Funcaandun won the fifth event on the day, the nine furlongs and 25 yards, Distinctly Irish Trophy, with Tevin Foster in the saddle.

Funcaandun defeated reigning Horse of the Year, Atomica (Omar Walker) by 2 ¼ lengths, with Further And Beyond (Reyan Lewis) occupying the third slot. Funcaandun clocked 1:55.3 for the distance with splits of 25.2 x 49.1 x 1:13.4 and 1:40.1.

“Achieving the landmark of 300 winners is a significant one for the stables and personally for me.

“Reaching the figure of 300 would not have been possible without the work put in by the dedicated and efficient staff at the stables, plus the support of the owners.

“The majority of the owners who were with my father (Wayne) stayed with me and I am forever grateful for the confidence they had in me. To these owners, I offer my thanks and appreciation.

“New owners have also entered the stables, which is a significant development in our growth. As always, I will endeavour to produce the best at all times for all my clients,” DaCosta said in a post-race interview.
