KINGSTON, Jamaica – Ten three-year-olds at the non-winners of two level for locally bred horses and a maiden for foreigners come up against each other in what is the eighth race on the Saturday card of August 20 at Caymanas Park. The distance is five furlongs straight.
THE QUICK GALLOPER assesses the chances of these 10 starters.
– BROMPTON ALEX is a chestnut gelding (April 13) by Lion Tamer out of Peccadillio trained by Ryan Darby with Matthew Bennett aboard. Won his second race on February 6, and in four later starts has done nothing to suggest he is on his way to making it number two.
– JAGUAR is a chestnut gelding (January 11) by Berlino Di Tiger out of Bubbling Angeline trained by Rowan Mathie with Javaniel Patterson aboard. Recently changed stables, Jaguar had a difficult passage when he last raced on July 23 (five furlongs round) due to faulty gear. Since then, Jaguar has been present at exercise looking good. Redemption time is close for this gelding.
– WOWZA (USA) is a dark bay colt (March 5) by Jack Milton out of Springtime Rain trained by Anthony Nunes with Reyan Lewis in the saddle. Still assimilating local conditions.
– JOSH is a bay colt (April 12) by Casual Trick out of Jazzy Jet trained by Richard Azan with Anthony Thomas aboard. This colt has been quite consistent in his seven starts to date, finishing on the board on five occasions. Tried seven furlongs on August 6, then showing that he prefers to race shorter. Josh has been working well and is in with a live wire chance of winning. Note, Josh races with the figure eight on.
– HA GOW SIU MEI is a bay colt (February 23) by Sensational Slam out of Gaining Traction trained by Anthony Nunes with Shane Ellis aboard. Returned after surgery with a spanking run to remove himself from the maiden rank. Returns on Saturday over the same distance of his triumph, fitter and better prepared for action. Despite moving up a grade, Ha Gow Siu Mei is given every chance of making it two wins in succession.
– RIDDIM (USA) is a chestnut filly (April 2) by  Race Day out of Nabbed trained by Patrick Lynch with Dane Dawkins aboard. This foreigner can safely be taken out of all calculations.
– NOBLE IMPULSE is a chestnut colt (June 26) trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster aboard. Put in a fair effort when moving up in class for the first time on July 23. That run should assist in getting Noble Impulse primed for his second outing in non-two. Also, remember his only victory was over the five straight course.
– PEAKY BLINDERS (bred in utero) is a chestnut gelding (April 16) by Mshawish out of Visionary Wonder trained by Steven Todd with Phillip Parchment aboard. This gelding is returning from a respite of 104 days and needs time to get into the thick of things.
– GIANT WHEELER is a chestnut gelding (April 29) by Northern Giant out of Khadiliah trained by Jason DaCosta with Jerome Innis aboard. This gelding has tried non-winners of two four times with nothing much to show for his labour. Will benefit from this event. Note, Giant Wheeler races with the tongue tie-off.
– MARKET PLACE is a bay filly (February 25) by Market Rally out of Miss Emily trained by Gresford Smith with Aaron Chatrie aboard. Won her first race on July 30 over the straight course from post position one. On Saturday, Market Place is drawn on the outside with 9 lb less in her back. Although this filly is racing for the first occasion in non-winners of two, Market Place is of some ability and has to be considered as a serious candidate for victory.
