KINGSTON, Jamaica – With a mandatory payout in the Ketch-9 and with the Reggae 6 selling over $6 million, the Caymanas Saturday | October 23 | first got off to a bruising start for punters after victory went to 26-1 chance Flying Bullet.
Flying Bullet with Ruja Lahoe in the saddle for trainer Patrick Fong achieved his third career win in a claiming contest |$180,000 - $150,000 | for horses three-year-old and upwards sprinting 5 ½ furlongs.
Special Prosecutor (Oshane Nugent) dashed to the lead when the gates opened with Thenextbigting (Nicholas Hibbert) following. Lahoe and Flying Bullet were slowly picking off rivals and were about in fourth place when they got by the four-furlong marker.
Then close to completing the bend, Thenextbigting went by Special Prosecutor but now Flying Bullet was closing fast.
In the straight, after switching course from the outside, Flying Bullet, racing with the blinkers and the tongue tie off, shot by Thenextbigting, winning by 2 ½ lengths. Nasdaq Princess (Javaniel Patterson) third.
This was the seventh success this year for Lahoe.
