KINGSTON, Jamaica – Champion trainer Anthony Nunes got to within touching distance of current leader Jason DaCosta in the trainers’ race following the win by Generational in the Caymanas Boxing Day sixth. This was the second win on the day for Nunes.
Based on preliminary calculations DaCosta, who held a lead of $745,895 at the start of the 11-race programme has seen that advantage trimmed down to $240,845.
Generational was successful in a four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of three races) going six furlongs.
Jockey Robert Halledeen kept Generational behind a trio of horses who were all vying for the lead. Then after entering the straight for the last two furlongs, Halledeen switched Generational to the inside rails and that was that for the rest.
D’s Choice (Raddesh Roman) finished second with Kholbear (Matthew Bennett) third.
Nunes has now won five races over the last two race days thus far.
Jockey Anthony Thomas, who fell from his mount Sheboom as soon as the gates opened, will not be riding for the rest of the day.
