KINGSTON, Jamaica – Four-year-old Laban under a peach of a ride from the wily Dick Cardenas put it over his younger three-year-old rivals to win the Caymanas Saturday seventh.
Cardenas was patient on Laban as the three-year-olds - local Hoist The Mast (Paul Francis) making her first run in 2021 and foreigner Lure of Lucy (Anthony Thomas) engaged in a blistering battle of domination for the lead. Laban and Cardenas simply waited about two to three lengths behind blazing splits of 22.3 x 45.4.
Both Hoist The Mast and Lure of Lucy went wide as Cardenas slipped through on the rails and none of the two leaders were able to deal with the final burst of Laban who won by all of 6 1/4 lengths.
Lure of Lucy was second and One Don third.
