KINGSTON, Jamaica – Trainer Jason DaCosta was the toast at Caymanas Park after he saddled his 100th winner on local soil, Sunset Silhoutte (Anthony Thomas) in the day’s eighth race. DaCosta started his local career in the second week of April 2021, while conditioning horses in the United States, where he has already won over 400 races. At present, he still trains in the US.
Sunset Silhoutte, a bay filly by Northern Giant out of Ahwhofah, raced in a three-year-old maiden contest for fillies only over seven furlongs.
Fourteen fillies faced the starter, and when he set them off, She’s Hall Dat (Raddesh Roman) swooped down from the 14 draw to assume the lead. She’s Hall Dat was followed by Zion’s Princess (Odeen Edwards), with Sunset Silhoutte close by in third.
She’s Hall Dat held her lead while navigating the final part of the turn for home as Sunset Silhoutte and The Exodus (Oshane Nugent) gained momentum on the outside.
In the final two furlongs, Sunset Silhoutte increased the tempo to pull away from the rest as her stablemate Pretty Girl (Omar Walker) ran on strongly to complete a one-two result for DaCosta. Third went to Never On A Sunday (Shane Richardson), who jumped last at the start and flew in the straight. Never On A Sunday paid $1,071 to place.
Sunset Silhoutte was the third winner on the day for Thomas.
